Economic Inspired Creativity

Let's play pretend. Fort Wayne and the rest of the country have been thrown into a depression equal to that of the 1930s. It's Friday night and you and your friends are hanging out. What are you going to do for fun? Take into account these horrible facts. You have no car, no TV, no telephone. Your stereo and CDs have been sold at the pawnshop to help feed the family. I will let you have a small radio (speaker only kicks out 10 watts, sorry). No, you do not have enough money to go see a movie. No, you do not have a TV, DVD player, or money with which to rent a movie. It's the summer and there are not Northrop High School sporting events to go to, and you do not have enough money to go see at TinCaps game. Lastly, it's not the week of the Three Rivers Festival. If it costs money you can't do it. Please keep these suitable for classroom discussion!

  1. The depression is horrible, but as a teenager I believe it doesn't matter what you do or where you are at. It is the people that you are with. I honestly believe that I an make the best out of everything. For examples since I have any money, a car, or a TV and etc. I can play old game boards such as "Apples to Apples", or I would spent hours playing monopoly with my friends. If i had to sell all my gameboards to get money for my family I can play other games, like truth or dare or twenty one questions, I don't know, just be creative and use your imagination. I think a lot of people are taking advantage of the technologies and new inventions nowaday, the old stuff that we used to called "fun" has no longer apply. But also ask yourself what if one day we loose everything and if you think you got it worst in America? Imagine yourself in the 3rd world countries, they are suffering right now.

  2. ECONOMIC INSPIRED CREATIVITY!

The great depression were goin though is really hard on us. I have no money its a boring friday night im with my crazy friends.I would say since it isn't anything to do then we would have to get a sleepover going,Talk about the hard times were going though and try to forget about how poor we are. I would have to say we would play Hide and Seek,Cops and Robbers, and play Uno,and other card games.I would find something for us to do so we could look back on this day someday in history, and "Say yes, were poor but we can't forget about all the fun we had during this depression",I really couldn't live an hobo lifestyle.

Another depression would be difficult to live through especially now a days where we depend on so many electronics like computers and cellphones. If it were a friday night and I had no transportation, no money and a 10 watt radio I would walk to some friends houses that were close enough and meet at one of their houses, turn the radio to 98.9 The BEAR and play eucre all night, and if I didn't have enough to get home I would just stay at their house until maybe 2 or 3 o'clock the next day. Even without all this technology I would not run out of things to keep me entertained.

  4. Im poor and i have no money to buy almost anything. I am hanging out with my friends on a friday not to mention my friends are mainly girls ;], but we would hang out and play board games and truth or dare or all the other games we used to play when we were kids. We would listen to our little 10 watt radios and dance. I would know that im in a depression but i would not feel as if im in a depression.
